Just wondering."The answer is simply "no."It just isn't necessary for me to purposefully take "contrarian" or "unpopular" positions.The "Our View" editorials I write for our editorial board do that without even trying.Here are a few stances our editorial board has taken:- Bellingham should fluoridate its water supply.- The Bellingham City Council is wrong to punish Wal-Mart through land use laws — and even more wrong to try and pass off those laws as concern about growth.
- Whatcom County should place stringent restrictions on development around Lake Whatcom and in agricultural and rural areas of the county.
Preserving rural areas is more important than protecting neighborhoods in the cities.- The state should create "civil union" laws that recognize relationships between homosexual people and grant them rights similar to those granted heterosexual married couples.- The United States should not pull troops out of Iraq until the country is stabilized.
Our nation destroyed that society, we have a responsibility to see it repaired.Enough?
There are plenty more that generate a lot of anger.
Our board tries to logically defend all of the stances we take.
And I personally agree with all of the stances I have mentioned here.Are they contrary?
